While many people  familiar with naturally occurring diamonds. What about lab grown diamonds? These man-made stones have been on the market for more than 25 years and  popular among many people. Here some of the basic things you  know about lab grown diamonds and whether or not they’re right for you.

What Are Lab Grown Diamonds?

Lab grown diamonds  produced in laboratories, not unearthed from underground. Lab diamonds  sometimes also called cultured or lab-created diamonds. Though these terms  misleading. Cultured gems  created by humans for use as jewellery. Which is why cultured pearls and cultured coral also exist. There’s no such thing as a cultured emerald—and lab diamonds aren’t green either!

Lab grown diamonds  available in any size or shape that consumers demand. By popular demand. they’re available in many different colors other than white and they retain their color longer than mined diamonds since there’s no way for them to become tainted with foreign elements like carbon when they’re created under controlled conditions in labs.

Lab diamonds have an identical chemical composition to mined diamonds, so they’re just durable and just beautiful. Lab grown diamonds  around for more than 40 years now but only recently did lab gemstones begin to take off due to advances in technology. The price of lab-grown stones has dropped significantly over time thanks to improvements in production methods. Making them more affordable for everyone. Lab grown stones  becoming so popular that some jewelry retailers don’t even bother carrying mined stones anymore. A lot of people prefer lab gemstones because of ethical concerns about mining practices and environmental damage caused by mining operations.

Where Do They Come From?

Lab grown diamonds  manufactured in controlled conditions through processes like chemical vapour deposition and nuclear fusion. These lab diamonds created by combining carbon under high heat and pressure to form graphite. Next, more intense heat converts graphite into natural diamond. And then a slight amount of pressure is applied to fuse them with other carbon atoms in an atomic lattice pattern. This manufacturing process creates some of the natural flaws found in mined diamonds (like pin holes). Which can give lab grown diamonds an additional layer of authenticity. As many customers find it repulsive when manmade things appear too perfect.

Lab grown diamonds have been around since 1954, but they didn’t enter mainstream jewelry markets until recently because they were so expensive. Now that production costs have dropped significantly over time, lab grown diamonds represent a viable alternative for people who want their bling to be conflict-free—and still look pretty darn good. The synthetic gems  now available at retailers like Walmart and Costco—and their popularity continues to grow each year. According to De Beers’ 2018 Diamond Insight Report, sales of lab-created stones jumped 25 per cent from 2017 to 2018 alone! Because lab diamonds  identical in composition and appearance to mined ones, they’re often sold at lower prices than traditionally sourced gems.

Their Pros And Cons.

Lab grown diamonds created in high-pressure, high-temperature machines, and because they lack flaws like inclusions or blemishes, they’re very clean. Because of that and other factors, lab diamonds  much cheaper than mined diamonds (about 25 per cent cheaper). The keywords here. Lab diamonds can also be more expensive if demand drives up their price.

The biggest issue with lab diamonds isn’t quality but perception: some people don’t consider them real. For example, taken legal action against companies selling lab-grown stones as real diamonds.  To get around these issues, some seller’s market lab-grown stones as cultured instead of synthetic or lab grown. Either way, there’s no guarantee your purchase will stay a secret: some consumers claim they could tell right away that their cultured diamond wasn’t mined from Earth.

A Lab Grown Diamonds Right For You?

Lab grown diamonds aren’t necessarily a substitute for natural ones—but they’re still worth your consideration. Real vs. lab: what your options? Then again, if you know someone obsessed with space and/or science then maybe that person would love to receive a lab grown diamond as their anniversary gift! There  three primary considerations when shopping for a lab grown diamond: 1) color grade, 2) clarity grade and 3) cut quality.

Color grading is based on how closely a lab grown diamond resembles its natural counterpart; CVD diamonds tend to have higher clarity grades than natural ones, but lower color grades—so keep that in mind when making your selection.

Lab diamonds also tend to come in rounder cuts than natural ones.  For example, princess cutsless likely to break than rounds (because of their corners), while rounds can make for more interesting designs (because of their facets). Ultimately it comes down to personal preference—but do your research before settling on one shape over another!
